Is it just me? or does anyone feel the same way here...

I love the recessed bass and the bright mids / highs on my K701. Since I've gotten them, the bright mids and highs that the K701 comes stock are amazing for female vocals...
I could listen to music without the deafening pounding in my head (from the bass) and still hear all the details of everything. But the main reason is... I'm afraid that the more I use it, the less "bright" the K701 will be, cause it will lose its brightness and start to get flatter and more even with its mids and highs.

I wonder if there are any ways for me to preserve that kind of brightness on my K701... tat would be awesome.

Also... is there another pair of cans that have HUGE soundstage, maybe even bigger than the K701, with the details and sound close to the K701. (maybe closed cans).

Thanks guys!

Tried a Grado (preferably RS-1/RS-2) before?

Also, I dislike the K701 and the way it makes everything so airy to the point where no instrument has any weight or authority to it.

I haven't had a chance to try the high end grados yet... but damn... if I were to get something better than the K701 that fits my flavour, my wallet might not be able to accept the big hole

I personally find the airiness and large space really comforting... it seems like I'm in a big room!

No, it's not just you. I love the huge sound stage of the 701s. I have a season ticket to the symphony, and and the tonal balance and air of the 701 sounds more realistic than any other phones I've tried. Most people just love sizzling highs and wompy bass, but I like real.

You'll want to try the K-501 and K-1000. In my opinion, both are better than the K-701.

I dislike the k701 too. Soundstage and airyness... I don't want to have the feeling I'm in a 'big room', I want to have the feeling 'I'm there'!

You, sir, are an airhead.

I like the K701's soundstage, air, highs and midrange too.

Sony R10 and Qualia seem perfect for you. Both are more detailed than the K701 and have huge soundstages. The R10's midrange is superb, I think it's better than the K701's, K501's, or any AT.

Other options might be the K1000 or electrostatics.

I think the W5000 is more detailed than the K701, but its soundstage seems to be smaller.
