I've been using my MS1s for about 3 days and I'm not really impressed with them.(I burned them in 20 hours or something) I don't find much sound difference between my PPs and MS1s. I mean.. the MS1 isn't that much of an upgrade from my PPs. PPs are a bit too boomy and less balanced than the MS1. but I find the bass of MS1 to be a bit too thin and not as tight as that of my PPs and not as deep either. Sometimes, PPs seem to sound even clearer than the MS1. what the heck??!!!
Is something wrong with my MS1?
Would replacing the comfy pads with the vwap pads make a big improvement?
I'm really worried about my MS1 because these are my first ever real "expensive" headphones.

i just got a pair yesterday. at first i was concerned because they weren't impressing me either. out of my receiver they sounded a little muddy. they've been burning in all day and i've replaced the pads with the senn 414's (which seemed to add a little clarity), though, and they're sounding better now. they do a lot better through my cmoy opposed to straight out of the receiver as well. I'd suggest letting them burn in some more and thinking about a CMOY amp if you're going ampless. what's your source btw? hope they start sounding better for you.

well if your ears have any treble respone you should be able to notice the extra treble the ms1's have, and in time the extra detail should also be noticable. my ksc-35's sound muddy and veiled compared to my ms1's, but they do have a similar kind of sound. i just wish my ms1's had a bit more bass and a larger soundstage. i guess that is somewhat due to the comfy pads on them (i dont know where i can get different pads over here in australia though) and somewhat due to me not having an amp (soon to be corrected

What do you have to put music through the MS1?

The other thing you can do is just listen to the MS1 for a week, and don't listen to your PortaPro at all and then put the PortaPro on right afterwards. The differences should be much more apparent then.

bobjo,
What are you using as an amp?

It must be the source

Either it be the music file or a bad player... since the MS1s are easy to drive, they sound plenty loud and fantastic through my (very good sounding) MPIO CDP (24mW power)...

fantastic as in, very different from PPs in a good way.

Get a really good source if you want to hear how good they really are.

If you are using a *budget* cdp, then sell them, get some MS-1's and a nicer source.
