Is a Senn HD218 w/ Fiio E3 amp better than an HD228?

Converted from local prices, there's a $10 - $15 gap in price, with the HD228 being more expensive. This might be a negligible amount for some, but not for a 14 year old.

I haven't heard the HD218 and HD228, but the Fiio E3 is, harshly said, only a bass booster. I don't see why the HD218 would be better than the HD228 by adding some dB in the bass frequencies.

I see, so I should go with the HD228?

I don't know, I haven't heard them. You should decide that.
You should search for some comparisons of the HD218 vs HD228, so you can read what people (,who own/have listened to them,) think about them. Then decide which one you prefer the most, after reading opinions about the two headphones.

In other words: use the search button

I already did research on the HD2*8 line, I was only wondering if the HD218+amp combo would be cheaper and have better sound at the same time. Guess not. Thankee, good sir.

I see. Well, the Fiio E3 isn't really an amp imo. Rather a bass boost.

Your welcome. Maybe you should go for the HD238.

The HD238 sound more than ok (have them) but they leak like hell. If you ever want to wear them outside or inside near other people, go for the HD228. You can mod them and tweak the sound so they'll be closer to the HD238s, FWIR.

I've thought about the HD238, but it's too expensive and i always use an elevator everyday. Wearing open phones would seem like a dick move, IMO.

What mod are you referring to, the astroid one?

I use my HD 238s around the house and I have to say, in addition to sounding great, they're the most comfortable earpad headphones I've ever had, I've actually forgotten that I'm wearing them while sitting at my computer before. I haven't heard the 218 or 228 but headphone.com has short descriptions of each and they gush over the 228 more. Either one seems like a great choice at it's given price point.

Yeah, I assume that's the one he was referring to, as I've not heard of any others for the HD 228.

I own the HD 228, and it is a great sounding little can; I doubt you'll be disappointed. And the astroid mod is definitely of benefit, so do try that.
