I've read alot about the 4G iPod's bass rolling off significantly with lower impedances headphones but I was wondering if the 3G iPod's are the same?

In my experience, the 3G suffers from the same thing. Although I haven't extensively listen to the 4G.

Different chips on the two generations, perhaps a clearer representation on the 4g, but some of us prefer the muddier bass on the 3g.

What? The 3G has the same problem with low-impendance headphones, perhaps MORE severe judging by several reports. The 4G's actually have more prominent bass.
