Has anyone out there listened critically to this player, or am I going to have to do it? Most of the reviews I've read rave about the bells and whistles, without giving much attention to the quality of the sound.

I loathe the thought of purchasing a product with such a godawful idiotic name. Nevertheless, I want to get a cd/mp3 player with good sound quality. That probably isn't possible, I guess.

Perhaps I should try to go out less often...

The Iriver players have the best sound quality of all the other CD/MP3 players out there. Although, I've heard that the Nomad Jukebox and the iPod sound better.

iRiver is a cool name, what kind of name is sony or panasonic, sound like some ceap product that break if you drop it. onething iriver need to improve on is the line out and they'll be as good as anything.
are you talking about the imp550 or imp500, the imp500 look even more like a toilet seat than the imp400.

I meant the 550. Typo.

In my opinion, using the letter "i" as a prefix, or "x" as a suffix, is a stupid fad that has been done to death.

For that matter, though, "Sony" is just as dumb. If only they would change it to "Sonny" I would purchase their products now and forevermore.
