i am really looking into this for use with my ms2's and a meta or mint amp... is it a good deal? i don't care about the only 16 hour play time... what i do like is the 12ml +12ml output and the anti shock tech... and the $89 price!!! so is this the dream deal i think it is? or should i spend a little more and get a better iriver?
IV'E also been looking at the slimx 350 and 400... better value for the money than imp 150? and is 139.99 a good price for the 350?

The price seems reasonable. I was "supposed" to have spent $110 on mine after getting the $30 rebate.....That was oh....months ago. I'll never see that rebate. They're crooks.

sheesh...3 edits. Ok...um, the 350 would be well worth the extra 30 bucks or less. The anti shock is definetely better. The servo is definetely better. The sound is better. The battery life is better. I dont know if the 150 has the same remote or any at all....prolly does though. By the way, I've personally tried both and bought the 350. I was looking at the 400, and decided that the pretty design wasn't worth the extra $100...not by a long shot. The price has prolly gone down on the 400's since then, but I think that the theory still applies.

Also, don't expect Ogg support from them. They seem to be doing a rain dance all upon the vast fields of cosumers that bought them because they WERE promised just that.

Well, when I buy electronics and stuff, I prefer buying at a store that I can actually get to, instead of the web. So I went to J&R electronics in downtown Manhattan (near where I live). The price was comparible to that of places like newegg.com and mwave etc..plus iRiver was offering the rebate. (which is what i was talking about. iRiver is the crook here....many people have complained about not getting the rebates.)

I suggest trying a retail store because I've heard/read that iRivers customer service really sucks the big one..and that people have been given the shaft. So you're better off dealing with a place that will garantee an exchange/refund. Good hunting !

You should also look into used Slimx's. Hint, hint,....

Bsttery life of the imp 150 is better than the 350 actually. The 350 only gets better when you use the external battery pack.
I get over 13 hours of mp3 playback out of 2 1800 mah AA batteries.
SlimX does 10 hrs or so.
Also the 150 has no hiss problem.

It does have only 7mW output which is enough for portable headphones.

It's quite big for a PCDP.

The remote had no display.

imp-150 is a good product for the price but imp-250 upwards are two steps better because of

- powerful headphone-amp
- FM-tuner
- design
- antishock-memory

you should consider spending $25 to $50 more in order to get a state of the art pdcp.

by the way, imp-400 has no hiss problem either.

i just bought the imp 350 on amazon.com for $100 with free s/h (SLOW!!!!) and how noticable will this "hiss" be on my ms2's and meta 42 with 2x buffers and 8620 op amp? good deal? it was new.

I wish I knew what this "hiss" was, that everyone is talking about...Um, no..I retract that statement. I don't want to know. All I know, is that I"ve never heard one damned hiss EVER. Is it only apparent with an amp then ? Because I don't use one, and my 350 is more silent than a seasoned burgular wearing a ninja stealth suit ! I guess I got lucky, because out of all the complaints I've read about the 350 over at the iRiver site and elsewhere, mine doesn't suffer from. It's flawless. At the same token, I've never updated the firmware, because I can't find any just reason to do so. Many people start complaining after having done a firmware update...I left mine alone because there's nothing worth updating it for.

I get a minimum of 12 hours battery life on a single charge, but again...I usually charge the battery when it drops two indicator lines. And don't worry about the batter at first, as the life will grow after a couple of complete discharge/recharges. I now only totally discharge the battery perhaps once a month, and it's all looking good. If I was you, I'd take my advice and leave the firmware alone until and if Ogg support comes. Congrats on your buy...I hope you'll be very happy..I know I am.

The hiss-"problem" of iMP-250, 350 only appears with some headphones. Lower impedance causes more noticeable hiss. Therefore you'll hear hiss with sennheiser MX500 (impedance 32 ohm) but it suddenly disappears completely with Koss Porta Pro (impedance 60 ohm).

But, with sennheiser MX500, you can adjust volume at the headphonecable. Turn the volume just a little bit down, and the hiss is gone.

But even with sennheiser MX500 the hiss is not disturbing in any way. As soon as the music plays your ears won't be able to recognize the hiss anymore.

Hope this helps...

so i will get a hiss from the mini jack with my ms2's (32ohms) and meta 42? what does the hiss sound like? is there anyway to get rid of it? i really can't afford anything more expensive than the 350.
