I want a small portable player. I currently have a Gen 1 shuffle and a 1500i.

I was looking at the iRiver Clix because the reviews of it's SQ on here are great, and it has a dece screen. 1-2GB is right where I want/need to sit anything more and well, well, it just won't get used as I frequently cycle my files. And the fact that it looks pretty sweet doesn't hurt. Infact, I LOVE the way it looks.

My problem is, I don't use WIndows XP. I have Windows 2000...theoretically it should work, but I'm not gonna take any chances.

So what are my options? The Zen V 2gb is fairly cheap, as is the e250. I like the fact that the e250 is expandable.

The Zen V is an MTP only player. It will not work with Win2000. I think the Sansa e200 series can be either MSC or MTP, which means that it should work on 2000 in MSC mode.

Lovely....so my choices are even narrower. I switched from Linux because I was tired of Wine and having to deal with stuff working. Now that I'm on a windows platform, I still have issues

The Samsung YP-Z5 is also UMS, worth looking into. Supposedly has gapless. Or, you can always go with an iPod, iTunes does work with Windows 2000.

I know you can get a Samsung YP-U2 1-2GB and flash it to euro firmware making it a UMS device. Best thing is that the U2 is like the shuffle, has the plug right on the player itself, no wire.

Ive had the YP-U2, the Zen V plus, and the clix to end. If you want the best overall sound, i think it goes to Samsung. It comes with 8 presets and 9 band EQ, however the screen is very very small, hard to read imho. Then i had the Zen v Plus for a few days. It was ok, but the screen is kinda dim compared to the clix, also it just sounds ok..nothing to scream at. Now i have the Clix...i really like this device. Great screen, sounds ok (need a tad more volume), great feel...nice OS.

All in all the samsung sounds the best, other then that i like the clix over them all.

Thumb up for SQ on YP-U2, if screen doesnt matter.
Zen V+ run on MTP too, so no luck on that...you can try one of those Sony one ..(i dislike Sony eeehhh)

If you somehow can get UMDF to work on Win2000, than MTP can work too...
