I recently read an article on the iPod in HIFI+ magazine that discussed using the iPod to store uncompressed files...WAV and AIFF. Cool I thought, I could still store quite a few cd's and not have to listen to Mp3's. So I bought one. And sure enough WAV files sound quite acceptable. But here is the rub: during every song I get a 1 to 2 second gap. I assume this is the 35mb buffer reloading. As most songs are over 35mb in either WAV or AIFF it's quite useless. Am I doing something wrong or does someone know of a work around?
Thanks,
Steve

Hmm. Just tested on my 1st gen and get the same thing. Looking at the file sizes and when the gap occurs (if twice buffer size the gab appears in the middle, if just over it occurs near the songs end), it does appear to be this way. I haven't heard anyone discuss this before, but I think you're on to something.

BTW, it's 32 megs. What kinda of battery life are you getting running the disk almost continually?

This should probably be over in the portable forum.

Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your discovery.

Oops you are right, is it possible to move the thread to the proper forum? I did not use the ipod for more than 30 minutes, but it was pretty obvious that it was not going to last for 8 hours. I guess I could try AAC....I've read that it sounds better than mp3
Thanks

I did a little test a month or two ago. You may want to read it. Also over at Hydrogen Audio there are some comparisions of the different formats.
