It depends on who you ask. Some claim to be able to hear the difference between copper, silver and gold cables.

In the end, only you can really decide.

Item 2 is not a line-out dock, which is basically essential for use with an external amp. Amping from the headphone jack is NOT recommended.

I can recommend Qables for interconnects between players and amps. I've got a Zen as well as Ipod version. There's some quite expensive (but excellent I imagine !) versions as well as what's called "performance line" ( a nice way of saying less expensive!!) I'm perfectly happy with the sound using these cheaper models - but the "gold etc" are available too if you want.

PS we are talking about a line-out connection from the bottom dock NOT from headphone socket as earlier poster says!!

Good luck.

Physically the Creative Zen vision and Ipod Classic have same docking socket and my two Qables cables both fit each! BUT - UNFORTUNATELY(!) the wiring in NOT same and I had to mark which was which to prevent confusion!! For the record I think the sound I'm getting from either player( into Pocketamp2v2 and/or GoVibeV7) is excellent!! ( and a vast improvement in both quality and volume terms over the headphone socket output!)

Just get a Ipod Line out Dock cable from Qables.com. They have nice, cheap cables. It will be way more worth it spending extra money on BETTER sound than saving money and having CRAPPY sound.

Also, if you use a mini to mini there is really no point. You are still having the amplification from the iPod and there will be no difference. The amp would be a waste. There would be no point for the amp.

So basically,

Line out Dock --> DIRECT to amp
ipod's crappy amp --> headphone out ---> mini to mini ---> amplifier

I suggest you buy just a dock(female jack) and a quality mini cable for the dock. Then you can use use the line out on your most used player and the headphone out on the other. If you someday want to use the lineout on the other player you can just buy another dock. This will save you some money.
