I Don't know if this article has been posted before but I came across this test regarding the IPod shuffle pitted against other well known DAP's, the Shuffle seems to do particularly well in the bass department.

Actually, I remember this being posted a few months ago- and someone with technical knowledge on what these tests mean said the tests were pretty much pointless. The players that "failed" the squarewave tests had highpass filters at about 20 hz, which will make little difference in the music, since we only hear down to 20 hz anyway. The basic point was that the guy who wrote the article doesn't know what he's talking about.

Based on my listening tests-I have a 3g ipod, a 1st and 2nd gen mini and a shuffle, Bill Machrone's tests are spot on. At the same bitrate and unamped I believe the shuffle has better sq than any other ipod. I seem to remember that the explanation for the test results was that the shuffle has a different type of amp-push pull transistors or something(I don't know what that means as I'm not a technical person).

If you use the "search" on this forum...

Though I should add, I think the iPod Shuffle is great soundwise. I have no idea why, even after reading all these threads about it.

Exactly. The Nano is a flash player too, but didn't include the shuffle SQ... Shuffle SQ + good EQ + 20gb flash memory

and it would be perfect
