it might not be bad, but it probably will hiss heaps. i had the 2g shuffle and um2 (admittedly very sensitive) but they hissed so much with the shuffle that both eventually went bye bye.
It's a little hissy, but I don't mind it too much while the music is playing. Supposedly the UM2 hisses more than the UM1. Some people suggest the Q-Jays for non-hissy listening from portable sources.
On a off-topic note, i have seen several people refer to the new shuffles as 3rd Gen, and I don't really get it. There is now a 2GB option, but the design and internals of the player is the same. I would probably still call it 2nd Gen.
thanks for the help guys, i don't really mind about hissing as long as it's not noticeable when music is playing.
and about calling the shuffle 3rd gen - maybe they did change some of the internals? i haven't seen a review of the 3rd gen sound quality no where, just about the 2nd gen.
well, i am just following the crowd - probably to make it easier. i have heard someone say that the 2gb version is less hissy than previous 1gb versions however.
i cannot recommend it enough if you want a player that will survive world war iv. i have seen it dropped in beer, dried out and then played. i don't think it would survive a spin cycle of a washer but i have heard reports that it did and only broke after being thrown at a brick wall. great sturdy decent sounding portable.
