Does anyone have any insights on this? It is a v. 2.0 8gb model. Is it using up the battery? Any non-risky user fixes? Or should I just send it in?? Any one else have this problem?

Thanks!

???

I don't know anything about ipods, but why should they stop playing when you unplug the headphones?

My Sony NW-HD1 continues playing when there's nothing plugged into the headphone/line out.

iPods are supposed to pause playback if the headphones are pulled out, but it seems to be a hit and miss kind of thing. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I've had a 5g iPod video and it will stop playing about 90% of the time the headphone jack is pulled out. Sometimes it just doesn't work the way it's supposed.

Personally I don't think it's worth the time and effort to get that minor feature fixed. Unless you are in some situation where you really need this feature. (I honestly can't think of one)

i think it depends on the speed that you pull them out. the faster the speed, the less of a chance for the music to stop

I agree, I can't really see what the advantage of that feature is anyway.

Don't worry

Convenience. I'm at work with my ipod in my pocket with the lock feature turned on to keep movement on my part from adjusting the volume inadvertently. Someone comes up to talk to me. Instead of pulling the ipod out and fiddling with it, I just reach in my pocket and pull the plug, and take of my headphones.

Hm, never thought of it like that

Call me old-school, but I'm a sucker for less-automated things. Give me manual headlights and roll-up windows in my car

. Less automated stuff allows me to understand it (and be able to fix it), and there's just one less thing to go wrong... haha

People must think I'm weird, :P.

when someone comes to talk to me, i just take off my earphones and leave the player playing... 5 minutes ain't gonna kill the battery. plus, if it's a longer conversation, just take out the ipod and turn it off. it's not like they didn't notice you were listening to music beforehand =P

Well, for me, for example, it's easier when in bed and falling asleep, to pull out the phones which worked perfectly on my first (1st Gen 4GB) Nano. Which paused and basically shut the thing down. Now I strongly think I'm losing some battery charge as the thing continues playing throughout the night - albeit to non-existent earphones.

Plus, the thing keeps going through songs so I can't start back where I left off. And this last hassle is true in more short term situations too. It's great to just pull out and be able to start right back. I usually have my ipod in my front shirt patch pocket, in the front, so I can pause with the wheel usually. But I also sometimes (usually) have a pen or two, reading glasses, dark glasses, and my cell phone. So the pull out feature is quite useful....

Finally, the pull out feature is usefull if the phone plug gets pulled out while jogging or otherwise. The Ipod stops and when you plug back in, it's right where you left it. So, yes, I'm a bit peeved. But I'd love to hear more how normal it is, and confirmation of my suspicion that one loses battery power if it plays (which mine does) even though nothing is being driven. There's still activity - the dims screen still keeps track of what tune is on, where in the song it is, etc.

Thanks!

I'll solve your problem, put the stuff in your hands on a table or under your arm and make a "one second please" gesture to the tool that's disturbing you (I kid, don't fret) and pull your iPod out and pause the music.

My 8gb does it fine though, no matter how fast it's pulled out.

As for any clear advantages, well.. if your jack gets pulled out by accident the music pauses and you don't need to get too annoyed at missing that awesome cool solo by your favourite artist.

Whenever I want to stop the music on my NW-HD1, I either pause it - or shut it off. Isn't that possible on the ipod? lol

I say for peace of mind's sake send it in. It's gonna keep bugging you, right?

BTW, my 5.5g 30gb iPod always pauses when I pull the jack out... it works perfectly.
