ipod mini screen cracked -- what can I do?

My ipod minis screen was smashed lately as I rocked my chair back and it was there under.... Now there is a crack with a black bruise underneath. I can still maneuver and see what songs I can play (only half the screen is bruised) but it's cracked and puts a damper on my enjoyment.

What are my options? I know it's not under warranty, Apple would probably charge $5000, also I can't imagine anyone would want to buy it used now.

I'm poor. I just trashed my 4G 20GB in the same fashion, although I slipped and fell and it gave me a bruise too.

What i'm doing is keeping the thing until I can afford a new one. I'm not comfortable with replacing the screen, although my warranty is already void I think. Can someone tell me if the warranty is void, or if the rest of the parts other than the LCD are still covered?

I figure if this lasts me a few more months then I'll be ready for the 5th generation of ipods and can go blow another 500 bucks.

Apple's warranty is OK, but out of warranty work you might as well throw the thing in the trash and try again with a new one. They'd like that anyway .. haha.

The screens break easily though don't you think? I wonder if it's the size of the screen in relation to the flexibility of the plastic covering. Maybe the ipod Nano wouldn't break so easily considering it's screen size. Maybe they should just mount the screen further away from the case. At least I have solved the problem of my computer running out of hard drive space!

Keep it or sell it cheap. People are selling their good condition minis for the price of that replacement screen. Sell it and use the dough to buy a used mini. Sorry.
