Can anyone tell me a good way to hook up an iPod to a car stereo?

I've seen the FM transmitters, but I wasn't sure how good the sound quality would be.

I've seen hard-wiring kits, but they're just too complicated and too expensive.

I've also seen an adapter that uses a dummy cassette.

Anyone used any of these things or know of anything better?

If you've got a car stereo with a cassette player in it, the dummy cassette adapter will be the easiest solution by far. It doesn't sound the best, but it is the easiest.

I have tried a few different FM transmitters and they pretty much all suck.

Hardwiring isn't as hard as you might think. If you can access the back of your radio where the antenna plugs in, you can add an fm modulator to your setup. This is the best sounding solution that I've found to date. Check out Crutchfield.com, that's where i bought mine. You might be able to find a good deal locally as well depending on where you live.

The other option of course is replace the head unit with one that has an aux port that you can plug into directly.

good luck

To maximize the dummy cassette idea, you should purchase this.

Doing so will allow you to bypass the iPod amp thus just use the car amp.
