I searched and couldn't find anything on ranking them...

Obviously the RWA isn't included in this list, but factory firmware/os, what's the ranking of ipods as far as SQ goes coming out of the headphone jack? Line out? Generations?

My GF needs (wants) an iPod, and I was considering getting her a Nano, but now that I think of it, she could probably use a full sized iPod since she has a 1st and 2nd gen shuffle for excercise....christ, I think the bug started to bite her, lol.

She'll be switching from IEMs to some Beyers that I'll be getting soon, so I'm looking at both line out SQ and HP jack quality (amped and unamped, obviously). Not necessarily the one model with the best of both, but if ones line out is significantly better than the other and the HP jack is dece, why not go for that one?

I've read most people can't tell the difference between the different Gen iPods line outs....I haven't been able to listen to them that way, so anybody able to comment on this?

So which ones have the best SQ out of either? I read the Nano's are a little anemic in the Bass dept....she likes bass, but not at the sacrifice of the other frequencies (I think she got that from me, lol), so which one suits her? Is this even really the case considering it's coming out of the line out?

I just want to shut her up.

IMO

Headphone-out
1. 1G Shuffle
After this one the differences are a subtle:
2. 1G Nano
3. 5G Video
4. 4G (Photo)
5. 2G Nano
6. 2G Shuffle

Line-out
1. 4G (Photo)
2. 5G Video/1G Nano/2G Nano

I don't remember how the generations pre-4 sounded. I'd be happy with the rather bassy 1G Shuffle fortunately.

You find the 1st gen shuffle bassy???? Really? I found it anemic to say the least...

Hmm, that list was much different than I pictured, but thanks for it....seems I may have to get to some listening...
