My iPod is running version 1.2.1 firmware.

I heard that version 1.2.2 has a feature built in where they CUT the db (volume) output to comply with some foreign country limitations on how loud a personal listening device can be. For this reason I don't want to upgrade because I like my music loud and I like the fact that I don't really need an amp with my iPod and ETY 4P's.

Anyone know about this volume decrease aspect of version 1.2.2?

1.2.2 is included with European iPods, but not American. It is meant to comply with the French standard for sound output on portable units. The reduction in sound output is the only difference between 1.2.1 and 1.2.2. If your iPod has 1.2.2, you can go back to 1.2.1 by downloading the 1.2.1 from Apple's site and doing a restore. This will reformat your iPod, so backup your songs, but you will have the 1.2.1 firmware, after that.

I would assume that with any future firmware release they will release one version that complies with the French law, and one that doesn't. I can't imagine they would reduce the sound output on all future firmware upgrades.
