Hey

For anyone that has a new classic iPod, when you leave it for a few seconds it goes on to some random screensaver with the time and battery meter.

My question: is it just me or is it a really bad job of the screensaver, its some cheap pixely black and white thing!

its better than none, isnt it? What i liked about the other ipods though is that you could see the song info in the sunlight, and no backlight.... now im assuming theres an ugly screensaver? man, that sucks

I believe this may be a battery-saving technique. I'm no electronics expert, but the monochrome display of just the current clock time, a "play" triangle icon, and a battery meter is static and does not require constant refreshing. So it should draw very little battery power.

No, as long as the backlight is off it doesn't matter what is displayed on the screen. It's still refreshed 60 times a second! (or thereabouts). The screensaver must be there just for cool looks... How long before we'll be able to buy new screensavers on iTunes?

I agree completely. I'd also like to see an option to leave the backlight on permanently when there's power supplied to the dock connector.

oh yesh oh god yes

like 2 profiles: portable - backlight off in 10 seconds, plugged in - backlight always on, with mnaual option to turn off.

it pains me when its docked, to hav to move the scrollwheel to see the song!
