I have a 2nd gen 10 Gig iPod (touchwheel with buttons around the wheel) which I bought new and use every single day - I love it.
I am intentionally refraining from voting since I have no experience at all with the Zen - I don't vote on heresay.
My best advice to you would be to go to a local store and play with both. CompUSA, BestBuy have iPods on display that you can explore the user-interface - I don't know who carries Zen.
User-interface and interface with your computer are big factors in my opinion as they affect you every time to use the device so you better be happy with them.
If you don't need more than 10Gigs - don't pay for it with iPod or anthing else.
I have about 50Gigs of music and I simply swap it out on my 10Gig iPod. I would benefit from more capacity but it is not terribly inconvenient to swap out files and it is extremely quick to do so using firewire.
Based solely on my own experience, I don't think you can go wrong with iPod.
Thanks everyone for the opinions... it really sounds like although the iPod looks better and is smaller, the features of the Zen NX make it the better value.
A new option opened up today. I believe I can get a 20GB Zen for around $188. So that gives me three choices now:
$170 - 10GB iPod 2nd Gen (Refurb)
$188 - 20GB Nomad Zen
$210 - 30GB Nomad Zen NX
The Zen is starting to stand out, but from how I understand it the battery can't easily be replaced. Now for those of you that like the Zen better than the Zen NX... I wouldn't mind listening to your reasons. Thanks.
i was thinking about buying a zen nx as well, where did you find out about getting a 30gb one for $210 (!)? Also anyone else know about any good deals?
