hi guys i'm quite new to this forum...and i'm not too sure if this post should be here.

i was wondering is the iphone's sound quality good? or similar to normal ipods?
intending to get a pair of Superfi 5 EB so need to clear some doubts in my mind...

Welcome white tiger! The iPhone sound quality is quite good! I was thinking it was gonna sound flat and dull, but it actually sounds really good. The soundstage is wide with my E500s. If you want a phone and an ipod, this won't dissapoint. The interface is also amazing!

oh one more question... i have problems trying to fit in the 3.5mm headphone jack into the iphone's port. the hole seems to be deeper than normal players...any solution to that?

1. Get an adapter. Belkin and Griffin have overpriced ones; monoprice has cheap ones.
2. Buy iPhone compatible headphones, such as Shures with the musicphone adapter, the new UltimateEar super.fi 4, V-moda Vibes, etc.
3. Take an exacto knife/razor blade/scalpel to your headphone plug and trim away some excess plastic.

Option 1 is easy but maybe a bit inelegant. Option 2 is great if you like the headphones that are iPhone compatible. Option 3 requires a little work and some risk (it's easier to undertake on headphones like Ultimate Ears that have replaceable cables), and has the possibility of looking a little ugly, but has ultimately worked quite well for me. I still keep an adapter around for headphones that I don't use all the time and don't want to mod.

That is a know design flaw apple created, why?? Who knows...but something like THIS should help.

I was surpised when i first listened to my 16gb with the shure mic/iphone adapter and my e500's that the sq for being a phone/ipod is actually pretty damn good! good enough to where i don't wanna whip out my classic for music listening if i can eat some battery on my iphone without the worry of needing it later.

of course my phone is not fully burned in or anything.....

I dont think that would have a noticeable affect on the sound...unless the cable was purely made wrong(static/connection issues). Thats unlikely.

ive not heard the iphone so my opinion are rubbish. but, certainly, saying sound is rubbish and leaving it at that is not helpful at all.

if the iphone and touch use the same hardware, it indeed sounds good. however, my opinion is really related only to the itouch. it is damn good especially when you consider what is in it.

I've had my iPhone 8GB since July, and I love it! IMO, the sound quality is as important as the convenience of having a converged device - and the quality is THAT good.

As far as the headphone jack, most male jacks can be trimmed down easily to fit. The exceptions (that I'm aware of) are jacks with metal jackets and the Sony MDR-EX91. A good iem for the money, but if you trim away the jacket far enough to insert, the plug will pull away easily (sliding the jacket up the cord) leaving only the very thin wires and microscopic solder joints to handle the forces of bending, twisting, and pulling.

I'd recommend one of the better iPhone compatible models with a mic/switch built in (I'm partial to the UE super.fi 4vi).

I concur that the iPhone sound is quite good. It does have a little hiss that you can detect in IEMs like my SE530s. But if you use the line out dock that it came with (or a LOD, but be careful to get one specifically made for iphone e as the pinouts vary from the iPod) and feed that to an amp, all the hiss is gone.

For walking around I don't carry an amp of anything, defeats the purpose of having the one small combo device. Just the iPhone and my Se530s in their case. But at home, I use a sendstation PocketDockAV to a portable amp. And then since I have a bit more push, I switch from the 530s to my BeyerDynamic full cans (which the iPhone can't quite push alone.)

this is the only iphone adapter to get as its made by apple and hasnt got any of the shortcomings of other 3rd party makers.

i have ordered a few over the months for a couple of iphones and they come sealed in the typical apple white foily packet.
