I just got an iphone a few days ago, and was really impressed with the call quality of the mic in the headset that comes with it. However, i hate the apple ibuds because they dont fit my ears at all.

Could you not just remove the ibuds from the end of the cable and re-solder the ends to a different pair of earphones like some jcv marshmallows or air cushions? I have both, so if someone could do this or is willing to try it, send me a PM.

Well, anybody with a steady hand can do this kind of work. The question is whether the buds you want to use are amenable to being opened up and futzed around with. This is an unknown for most canalphones and buds.

The er-6i is relatively easy to work on. I'd like to be able to flatter myself by saying i inspired 'ultimate buds' with my own er-6i recable back around memorial day, but honestly it doesn't take much thought to figure out how to open them up.

I wouldnt mind sending one of my pairs of marshmallows to you to mess around with. If you can get it to work, i would gladly pay you.

I've seen adapters for only $3.99. It probably won't hurt quality much more then soldering on an iBud cable.

The super.fi 4 is coming out, but I wouldn't use them unless you need a handsfree headset with super.fi 3 quality.

I have a pair of headphones that fit the iphones jack and sound great. The only thing im looking to do is keep the microphone built into the cable of the iphone headset. It also allows you to change tracks and pause the music.

I paid the money for the Shure MPA...to use any headphones with the iPhone and not lose the microphone...it does make the cable fairly long though!

It's been done, and discussed before. It's a very simple mod, takes 15 minutes or so.

I did it with the Marshmallows.. I actually hate them now, the wires changed the sound.. though they were never that great to begin with.

I ended up buying an adapter off eBay instead, to use with my Shure e500.. has a little clip, the button and mic. Cost $10.

Here's a video for the mod:

Can you still use the PTH adapter with that?
