I have an iPhone 6s and I would like to add a dac/amp (looking at the Nano iDSD BL) to my setup. But I use one of those wireless charging cases that plugs into the lightening connector port, and then has a micro USB port at the bottom instead. So I was wondering if I would be able to use the cheaper Micro USB OTG that is meant for Android phones instead of the Apple CCK cable. Or is there something in the CCK cable that allows the signal to pass through?

That's a very good question actually. From what I understand of Apple's lightning connection, it should work as lightning connector supports the equivalent of OTG by default. Though it also depends on whether the case manufacturer wired it so it would work that way. You'd probably have to ask the case manufacturer if you aren't willing to experiment with it yourself.

A safe bet would be to get a DAC that has native compatibility with Apple devices, ie, "Made for iPod" and would otherwise work with just a sync cable instead of requiring a Lightning cable (and has USB-A on the DAC instead of miniB or USB-B). If you can use a microUSB cable to sync with that case on then chances are that would still work.

Thanks for the responses. From what I can tell, even the “made for (apple device )” dac/amps still require the Apple cck to be used ( at least the better ones do). I guess it doesn’t make sense to compromise on the unit for the sake of a $30 cable. I can actually remove the section that plugs into the lightening port pretty easily and have access to it. The OTG cables are fairy cheap so I guess I will order both and return the unneeded one. Thanks!

By "Made for iPod/iPhone" I don't mean the manufacturer simply claims to work...

...but specifically something that works with just the sync/data cable into a USB-A socket, albeit some come with a short cable to make them easier to use as portables.

Not to say I'm 101% sure it will work, only that if you're going to try something, these are the sort you can try. Or just get a new wireless charging case.
