I wanted to try something quick and simple to get my headphones connected to the dock connector to see if I noticed any improvement in sound prior to making my own LOD.

So I took the white cable that I use to sync and charge my phone, put a female to female usb connector, then a usb to mini then to my little fiio and off to my headphones.  the sound came out the speakers and not the headphones.

I am assuming the stock iPhone cable is the issue?  there is not a setting or such on the phone that I can use to switch audio output?

thanks

I think the issue is FiiO e7 or E17 not being able to be iDevice DACs (if you have one of those). You'll need a 30pin -> 3.5mm stereo connector like the FiiO L9 or so. Can't sadly use those two E-things as dacs AFAIK, just headphone amps. (Warning though, the FiiO L-series seems to be kinda flimsy for very active use.)
