iPad 2 - Impedances
iPad 2, Sansa Clip+ - Impedances
 
It is a piece of crippled horse dung that really can't do anything without causing me an aneurysm, but for audio it measures better than most MP3 players out there (I was led to believe the iPhone and iPod 4 are basically the same as the iPad 2). It even beats the Sansa Clip+ in some measurements (THD, IMD) and is almost as linear as my professional sound card. Best semi-portable I've ran through RMAA yet. If it just wouldn't suck so much... oh well.

I've never stopped telling 'em how I see 'em. And the iPad 2 shows remarkable results in RMAA, no matter what I think of its operating system or marketing-political background.

Am I translating this correctly as "Sounds fantastic, but Apple still stucks"

It measures fantastic - it sounds as good as the next non-broken player, since human ears are way less sensitive than RMAA anyways.

I might have to try my iPad with a few pairs of headphones to see how it fares.  I find my iPhone 4 to sound rather harsh, but then my regular rig has exceedingly low distortion.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread dfkt, but based on your measurements, what kind of headphones (circumaural) would you say the headphone output on the iPad 2 can drive? Without being able to try many out, would you say something between 30-80 ohms impedance and >95db/mW sensitivity?

That sounds like a reasonable range. I doubt the iPad would have issues driving something like that. Of course you can go to lower impedances as well - no issues with hiss or other artifacts in 16 Ohm phones I noticed with it.

So, I´m about to recieve my Brainwavz M3.... they are rated  20 Ohms ans sensitivity >=115dB, do you think they should be fine straight from the ipad 2 headphone jack?
 
I also have a Fiio E5 and a LOD cable, but honestly, I'm very lazy to use them...
