hello all!!!

i'd like to take a minute to introduce myself before diving headlong into a lengthy review of an old-skool panasonic mr200 i picked up on ebay not too long ago. my name is nikolaus, and i'm a regular member on the minidisc tboard, so a few of you know me from there.
cool.gif

i'm a long-term md fan, having blown through a sharp 722, sony r70, sharp 877, and sharp mdm1 bookshelf unit before settling on my current configuration of sharp dr7 & ds8, panasonic mr200 & mr220 (play only
frown.gif
), and sharp nx10 bookshelf unit. as for headphones, i use sony ex71, sennheiser mx300 & 400, and am looking into getting a pair of shure e1's. future portable aquisitions might be an altoids tin cmoy amp, previously mentioned shure e1's, and a kenwood q55 md player in black - sweetest sounding md player i've heard yet!!!

check here: sharp ds8 vs kenwood q77 showdown

now, onto the mr200 review...

text of the review, as well as a follow-up discussion, can be found here: mr200 initial impressions

as an update to that thread, i'd like to post a pictoral review of the mr200 and draw some comparisons with the mr220. so here we go...

skip ahead a couple posts for the images. i received feedback that the page i'm using to host the images is requiring a username/password, so...i decided to just throw them up here instead.

Welcome to Head-Fi, Nikolaus,

It is accustomed to say "Sorry about your wallet," to new members but I think in your case it's redundant, you are already into full gear. You will fit right in... There is no scape from here though...
biggrin.gif

We will appreciate having your MD expertise around. Thanks again for that SD-NX10 reference, your started it all.....

Welcome!
CD..

[edit]= spelling, ok, give a brake, its Fraaiday..

thanks for the welcome - i appreciate it!!! i've lurked awhile and know several tboarders are here, so i don't feel like too much of a stranger
biggrin.gif
and the wallet...ouch
evil_smiley.gif

so did you get in on the nx10 deal, too? i didn't know that my reputation regarding the nx10 preceded me here.

oh yeah, can you see the image gallery? i put it up on the tboard, as well, and tbdoah said he couldn't get to it. i just want to make sure that people can see it

well, here are the images i promised
biggrin.gif
first off, a comparison of both side-by-side, followed by the mr220 on its own...

mr220 on left, mr200 on right

mr220 remote on top, mr200 remote below

close-up of remote lcd screen (same for both). the blank spot between the spinning disc icon and the battery indicator icon is for the eq and play mode icons - i just fogot to activate them before capturing the image :p

mr220 lcd screen while playing

to be continued...

now, on with the show - the star, itself...the mr200!!!

mr200 by itself
mr200.jpg

mr200 lcd screen has user-definable banner of up to 10 characters during toc reads
biggrin.gif

mr200screen1.jpg

mr200 lcd screen during play. i really prefer the more square-ish lcd screen on the mr200 over the very long, thin rectangular screen on the mr220!!!
mr200screen2.jpg

mr200 remote close-up. notice the grey background on the remote's lcd screen.
mr200remote4.jpg

mr200 remote close-up. i activated the hold function, which physically removes the grey background from the lcd screen (it retracts into the remote's body). notice that you can see the mr200's touchpad behind the lcd screen now.
mr200remote3.jpg

mr200 remote close-up. now, i'm playing an md with the hold function activated. you can see the characters (it's a little hard due to the lighting and camera angle) "2 betty' (disc icon) (empty space) (battery icon)". behind the characters, you can still see the mr200's touchpad.
mr200remote5.jpg

mr200 remote lcd screen close-up. just a closer image. look for the same characters. i assure you all that it's easier to see the remote screen with the naked eye while ih 'hold' mode than to capture it with a camera!!!

enjoy

no, the images aren't showing here either...

Maybe the bandwidth has been exceeded, and they'll switch back on again soon

I think your bandwidth is broke for the day. I'll check it tomorrow. You're still seeing the images because they're in your cache.
