I've got a question about the E9... Can anyone tell me if there is any advantage (SQ wise) in buying one of those branded and expensive USB cables to connect the E9+E7 combo to the laptop? I'm talking about Audioquest, Wireworld or Monster USB audio cables, just to name some...

I think you don't need to buy a expensive USB cable, because the USB cable, come with E7 or E9, is very good quality, and had been tested!

It's all digital so the signal will either reach its destination or it wont. Data transmitted is completely identical... and so is sound quality.

Audio travels though a usb cable in a square wave form, not 1's and 0's , the one supplyed with the e9 has ferrites on it, in the official usb spec it advises against ferrites on the cables, i wouldn't recommend spending loads on a usb cable it's a waste of money i use these lindy 1's http://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-firewire/usb-cables/premium-gold-usb/ , there fully sheilded and look good theres not much difference in sound quality over the stock cable but the lindy does sound a bit fuller. Also you could add a ferrite clamp on the e9's power cable to stop interference entering it http://www.sinequanon.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=160 .

JRG1990, I´ve read about that ferrite issue in the "normal" cables, but I'm not too happy (or willing) to buy a £50 plus, or even less for a £100 cable (and the price can go up to plus £500 for a USB cable 

). I also really doubt the benefict of those ultra expensive usb cables! The way I see it, from a "normal" cable to a (cheap) high grade one, there should be some noticeable difference, but from a good USB cable (let's say a £20~30 one) to those extra expensive ones, I strongly doubt there's a big difference!!! I'm looking for something in that price range, and those Lindy cables seem very tempting... 

 
One other thing, relating to USB cables... And how about the length of the cable? Would it affect the signal/sound in a noticeable way? For my current set-up, I need a 1.8 meter (6ft, I believe) USB cable to connect the laptop to the E9, but in the future it's possible that I'll need a longer cable. So, to protect my investment, I'm thinking about buying a 3m cable, instead of a 2 meter one. Will this extra meter make any difference in signal/sound quality?

I don't know , i went from 0.5metres to 1metre and i didn't notice any difference in sound qualilty max length for a usb cable is 5m, for audio purposes it's probley best not to exceed 3m, that extra metre wont make a massive difference if any difference at all.

Well, I was checking that Lindy USB cable you refered, and altough it seems to be a great option, Lindy charges me almost the same to send it to Portugal, as for the cable price, which makes it too expensive. So for me, in the end, it'll cost almost twice of what is listed in their site... 

 
So, currently my other options are an high-grade USB cable from Belkin (Gold Series), which costs me £15 (delivered), or going insane and go for an Audioquest Forest USB at £30.
At least from the specs, the Belkin seems comparable to the Lindy (but not so good looking!

), and the Audioquest Forest is a 4 star award from WhatHi-Fi?. Check the links bellow, and tell me what you think, please...

I went for the lindy because it was sheilded, i don't think the audio quest is sheilded the belkin is so id go for the belkin.

Now I'm going to look into the ferrite clamp on the power cable! You use the smallest one (5mm internal diameter) with the E9 power cable, right? It's a cheap mod, so it's a very good ideia...

Yea i squeezed a 5mm on it, a 5.5mm should also fit aswell , there 50p - £1 on ebay they keep unwanted frequences off the power cable, i don't recommend them for interconnects though as some still have resistance down to 20khz and will cause treble roll off.
