Hello
I have to introduce myself here as a newbie. I posted a little a few years back, and am a longstanding fan of Head-fi, but have been quiet since and have now re-registered.
I have now decided to revamp and upgrade my portable set-up. My full history starts with Creative, though I forget the original model I had (a thick white 20GB thing, with a vertical scroll), via a Creative Zen M, to an ipod Classic 160GB. These were always paired with headphone amps - starting with PA2V2, through Ray Samuels Tomahawk (and SR-71, which I reluctantly sold) as well as an Head-Fi special - the Corda HeadSix. With the ipod Classic I used the lineout, with a connector from apuresound.com (who gave terrific service, but whose website sadly looks dormant now). For headphones I used Shure E4c after my old E2c lost output from one channel. I have been through innumerable cheaper models for running etc.
That is my portable history. I will post details of my home set-up anon.
After years of sticking with the ipod, I have now bought an Fiio X1, and am tempted to get RHA T20 to go with this. The cable on my Shure E4cs looks about to break. Early listening to the X1 suggests I might not use an amp, at least for listening on the move. If I do, I might stick with what I have.
I have a problem with the X1 though and hoped someone here might be able to help.
I want to create playlists externally. The internal Playlist creator is cumbersome, to say the least, including the inability to change names. I listen overwhelmingly to classical music, and I need to put together works, such as symphonies or quartets, from different movements.
I have only realised since getting the X1 that this process is not straightforward, at least not for a computing ignoramus like me! I use a mac so foobar2000 is not an option. After some searching, it looks like the trick is to create m3u lists and export them to my SD card and, thereby, to my X1.
So, I need a user friendly (and forgiving, hopefully) software. I have earmarked Jaikoz and MediaMonkey seems a possibility (I think there is an OSX version?), but I have seen hints that MediaMonkey lists don't work with the X1. The forum on fiio.net is not very helpful and general searches produce a bewildering array of stuff about m3u which I don't know how to interpret.
Can someone here help, please? I love the X1 so far, but this is an otherwise fatal problem I need to overcome.
Thank you.
Martin
