Nice alternative to the HiBy CR08 at a fraction of the cost.

Hi,
Nice device.
But I fear 350mW output won't be sufficient to feed my power hungry Moondrop Venus :frowning2:
Even the Fiio R9 beefy 7W at "medium gain" has to be turned to 90/120 to get decent sound pressure...

But if if would not be for that, this would be something to consider for me...

Regards.

Nice alternative to the HiBy CR08 at a fraction of the cost.
I have a HiBy CR06 and I still ordered this.

The problem with the HiBy docks is that they don't have a USB digital output on the dock, so while you can hook up the USB to the dock on the HiBy units, the USB connection on the back will not pass on digital audio to an external DAC like this one from xDuoo does. The USB connection on HiBy docks feeds the optical and coax outputs on the back, but not the USB connection, which is solely there for attaching USB storage units like flash drives and external SSDs. On my CR06, I have to use a separate cable which splits out the data signal from the power signal going to the DAP in order to feed an external DAC while keeping the DAP charged. It is quite messy.

There is very little differentiation between CR06 and CR08. I think CR08 has active cooling whereas CR06 does not. Otherwise, they are functionally the same, and lack USB digital audio passthrough/output.

Is that a 4.4 out?

I didn't see a 4.4mm output to be able to connect it to my balanced desktop amplifier.

The Preamp Out is 3.5mm single-ended. I don't think it has any balanced, analog outputs. The only solution would be to hook up an external DAC digitally that has balanced outputs.

I don't even need this but somehow I'm intrigued LOL.

Also I don't see hardware volume control for headphone, I only see volume wheel for preamp out.

Is the volume digitally controlled through the phone similar to dongles? As in it receives 100% signal for full dynamic range but then the volume controls hardware volume internally?

Nice to see someone finally filling this niche besides A&K. Hopefully this won't cost an arm and a leg, like their offerings do.

I like it but to me, it’s missing a mechanism to lock the USB-C cable onto the holder: as designed, you have to connect the phone to the short USB cable first, then slide everything onto the holder. One too many operations!
