I was just at he website and im all confused...
So, there are 3 different cards? And if i want 7.1 optical I need to buy 2 cards and connect them with a cable?
Think of it this way: EVGA NU Audio Pro 7.1 (AN21) = NU Audio Pro card (AN11) + NU Audio Pro Surround (AN10)

Optical will always be a maximum of 5.1 as Dolby/DTS passthrough.

They have 2 cards. The main card, and the daughter board. There are 3 skus. The first is the main card and the daughter board, which is what the current pre-order option is. The next is just the main card. The next is just the daughter board.
Ah, got it!

Abstract question but i have the Asus D2X Xonar...is this an upgrade? I have to believe it is just based on the DACS... Did I see there will be 3 DACs in this?

Hey Lee M, I have a question for you. Can you let us all know what all the stock opamps on the card are ? I plan to replace them all with either my Burson Audio V6 Vivids or my LME metal cans, but it would be great to know.

Hey szore, regarding the DACs, the card has 4 of the AKM AK4493 DAC chips. This is a 2 channel DAC, and 4 of them are used for the total 7.1 channels. This is a very high end 32Bit DAC chip, and will be a big upgrade from the Burr-Brown PCM1796 DACs on your D2X.

The Burson Audio V6 Vivid singles and duals are some of the best sounding opamps available. I have them in my Creative ZXR sound card currently. They are truly excellent sounding. I own several of the LME49710HA metal cans (single channel) and LME497920HA metal cans (dual channel) as well. These are also excellent opamps.

The Z5500 were amazing PC speakers in 2003. For a while they had no rival, even their replacement the Z906 wasn't as good. But today they are a bit retro.
