Introducing the Audeze LCD-R!
Jan 24, 2022 at 5:33 PM Post #1,336 of 1,636
I'll give proper impressions later (when I don't have to type it all on my phone) but Jason from TSAV gave me the go ahead to run LCD-R on his OG Cavalli Liquid Gold. Chain ended up being roon ethernet -> Weiss 502 -> OG LAu -> LCD-R. I did have to turn down the gain on the dac just to get it to not be way too loud but it was quite a combo. Jason is apparently quite confidant that any of the old Cavalli designs will be 2 ohm stable but not exactly the easiest things to repair anymore so use at your own risk....

Oh wow... I was trying to get in touch with Alex to ask him about that, but he's not as easy to get a hold of these days.

Now I'm really tempted to try them with my OG LAu.

Swapped the pads on my LCD-R today. Really helped with comfort with the fazors - I was borderline ears touching only when cups were off center, they don't touch at all now unless I press firming on the cups.
This is great to hear.

Confirmed this combo! Double checked with Alex and he said it would be fine.

Sounds amazing, but you do really have to turn down the input source even on low gain.

Finally decided to pull the trigger on selling mine. Figured I'd let anyone who is watching here know. Listing up in the classifieds.

I did write up some thoughts after owning these for a while that I'll post here eventually.

if the serial number is the factor than owner #22 here
does anyone know if they are stable off of the topping a90 it goes down to .1 ohm
Email toping to ask. That's the only way to know for sure without some real indepth electrical testing

Sure you're not confusing with output impedance of the headphone jack? That number is NOT what you need to look at.

LCD-R requires very specific amplification, and I HIGHLY doubt the Topping a90 is it, as that is an amp for standard headphones. That's likely a sure bet to blow up your amplifier. Aka, do NOT do it.

This; do NOT test it out with an amp not approved by the manufacturer. You could over-current the amp and break it.

Eh, there are a lot of hp amps that can run R, but yah. Always check before trying or the amp could blow taking the cans with them

What I'm getting is that his impedance comment seems to be related to output impedance which is not what he needs to be looking at here. That is an irrelevant metric in this case, which if he goes by will likely result in saying bye bye to his gear.
