Introducing Shanling M30 - Modular Desktop Hi-Fi Streaming Player
Nov 7, 2021 at 8:27 PM Post #1,201 of 1,659
It depends on the design of the next amp , but sporting 3.5W per channel is huge !!!! Though shanling is being typical and silenced:frowning2:
I will share more once I know anything more. :frowning2:

if I use the aux rca input on the back of the m30 with an external dac, and use the m30 as only headphone amp.. is that possible? or does the m30 digitize the aux rca input signal so the external dac quality won't matter? I have an Audial AYA 5 tda1541a dac coming later this month I'd like to use for my headphone setup with the m30

You can use it this way. M30 will act as a simple amplifier, M30 will not be doing any ADC conversion.

To anyone with Apple Silicon Macs, the Eddict Player apps work great on the Mac. I can control the M30 remotely using Screen Projection on M1 MacBook Air quite well. Just make sure the M30 is hard wired into ethernet for best performance, otherwise you may get frequent disconnections.

@Shanling any forecast for next M30 firmware update?

Besides fixes for the still occurring Tidal MQA issues like first seconds muted and play progress not displayed on screen while music is still progressing in the background I'd love to get Apple Music lossless support and Tidal Connect

If Shanling allowed to sideload UApp that would at least solve all the Tidal muting and instability glitches plus allow more settings for people needing equing etc.
At least I am pretty confident cause that was my solution on M8 once I had it back then.
Shanling is producing fantastic hardware but for the software I can only strongly recommend that they partner up with some firm knowing their business so everyone can concentrate on doing what they can do best...

There's one topic I am currently wondering about which hasn't been discussed in this thread (and nowhere else on headfi?)
Am talking about the natural advantages of DAPs despite the obviously smaller footprint (M30 with full size grade components) vs a usual full size chain consisting of a streamer, a reclocker, a D/A converter, optionally preamplifier and power amplifier.
The necessity of the last 2 will depend on the demand of the headphone.
While also checking for desktop size alternatives I have been wondering about the cost and the benefit of buying all the listed devices while M30 has all of these already in one package.
Questions arise like: will you need an external reclocker plus purifier essentially only when chaining several devices while an integrated circuit design like M30 will have short direct wires and jitter coming from external USB connections is by design avoided (if you play from local sources or stream from local music services).
Any views on this?
Of course a high quality chain where each device is costing as much as M30 might bring improvements but I am wondering about the cost-value ratio and the fact that each extra device in a chain will cause extra risks for noise and jitter which then need to be mitigated by integrating additional devices like purifiers.
Wdyt?

Software team now fully working on release of M9, so new firmware for M30 might be bit delayed.

I think the concerns about software problems are very valid. Especially in hardware that have very little time on the market: M30, EM5 and EA5 and have these drawbacks.
The development team must have sufficient resources to attend to both the development of the M9 and the problems with the aforementioned equipment
With your answer, I confirm that software problems will not have solutions to the extent that users need because they are not only overloaded with work but also have other priorities. Not to mention that, as someone said, they lack the necessary expertise in their own work.

Any news on the new AMP module?
One suspects that since the software team is focused on rolling out the M9, the development may also be taking a backseat to final tweaks to the M9.…

Any news on the new AMP module?
Moving slowly, but steady., Going through some finals rounds of auditions and testing in company and at audio shows.
