Introducing NOIRE X

they are rather microphonic, as well as the connectors. DCA cables aren’t though and well worth the money sonically to my ears.

That reminds me. One of the things that Meze 99 classic users have noted is that the reverb of the steel bands make the headphones very bad for listening on the go as a pair of headsets. Now, the idea of using DCA as headsets seem impractical (either using ModMic or find a pair of Hirose to 3.5mm adapter and then use the Meze Boom mic cables), but this does resolve the microphonics coming from the metal bands.

As an aside, would the fine folks at DCA consider making their own take of the Meze Boom mic for less then dozens of us madmen who would even entertain the thought of using these as headsets...

Here's a stupid looking solution that I've come up with to curb the vibration of the steel bands.

Yes, if they were covered with an elastic plastic, this would reduce this considerably😎 (even if not completely)
(I still know that from one or the other AKG prototype which in the early stages also only had such bands😉)

NOMAX

PS.lol

Nice to meet all! I'm not just new to your forum, but rather new to the audiophile world. I promise not drive y'all crazy with questions. After I wrap up my gifts for others this holiday season, I want to unwrap myself some Noire X headphones. What would you suggest to ideally atop my desk with to inspire them to their best? Thank you - in advance.

What are you planning to connect the Noire X to? A PC? I think that the Noire X does need a bit of juice to power them. I believe that a decent portable portable digital to analogue converter (DAC) and amplifier will serve you very well. I personally use the Onix Alpha XI1, which you'd happily use with an Android phone most of the time. These things are compact, about 3" x 2" x 1".

Thank you, panzerfan. I appreciate you reaching out to help. Yes, the PC is my plan. I'd like to build something I can grow with as I realize just from my research so far, I'm doomed to dive further down this rabbit hole.

I wouldn't go crazy on the subject of amplification from the get-go. If you have desktop use in mind, then I can recommend you to give the Fiio K11 R2R Desktop DAC and headphone amplifier a hard look. The volume knob is quite handy, and this highly competent DAC can last you even if you move to obtain other amplifiers in the future.

How’s the timbre on these compared to Audeze ?

And can I power them from my Ifi Zen Can Sig?

Thanks

I can comment on the timbre against the lcd-5, do you have a specific model Audeze in mind? I’d equate the Noire X favorably and very similarly except for a notch or two overall warmer on the X to the LCD-5 but I haven’t heard the 4 or Og 2 for instance,

The power requirements listed are 250mW at 16ohm but I always find double the recommended is a great starting place for me with PM drivers.

I was making a generalization because I use EQ.
More specifically how is the timbre compared to the LCD-X ?

Thanks man.

For desktop use, I would definitely recommend checking out JDS Labs (e.g. ATOM) which have excellent products made in the U.S. and with amazing customer service for questions.

They have some affordable amps that will power most anything.

Hi
Should i understand that there are some issues with the headband and that the cables are not so good as well?
In what way?
