Introducing MOMENTUM 4 Wireless

flossy review

No offense but that is a joke not a review... Sound test: "I'm gonna start at MAX volume, I have my custom EQ" 😅

But I"m sure it has a large audience... because there are many that value max-volume-no-bass-distortion as their main concern.

I think I'm sold too. I'm not convinced it's worth spending a lot of money on BT wireless cans when the best I can use with most headphones is standard aptX (thanks Samsung). The only minor concern is the tuning of M4W. My favourite headphone is HD800S, which I regard as a masterpiece, the best dynamic driver headphones likely to ever exist. I found stock Sony MX3 completely unlistenable without EQ and this didn't work when LDAC was enabled. I do hope that Sennhesier provide a "high-end audio" EQ profile, so that any consumer stock tuning can be compensated for.

There's a great soundstage and a really smooth profile. To my ears (and yes, we're doing an #M4WTour to get everyone 3rd party impressions) there's a nice dotted line to the legendary HD 25 but with added height, width, and of course the physical attributes like comfort and wireless capability, etc.

So now Sennheiser goes mainstream tuning.

Yeah, they look nice in latte-flavour :)

Still is hard for me to get used to this drastic departure in design. The cups (especially in black) look like every other headphone, as someone commented. At least the plastic texture could be more inspiring. I always wondered how a DSLR-like texture would look on headphones. And final finally did it... look at the "final UX3000" - superb!

So they actually use the on-board DSP to add lots of extra bass and present that as "zero" in the EQ? :) This is potentially annoying for listeners of e.g. classical and jazz music, who would rather it was more convenient to get a neutral tuning.
Fingers crossed for a "high-end sound" tuning option.

It looks like a more gradual ramp up in bass than the Momentum 3, so I would say it *should* be a bit less bassy (default tunings). Of course the M3 had the "high-end sound tuning" to compensate for this, the M4 may or may not have this option.

I thought the same thing until I put them on. Even though the legacy models look super cool I wouldn't go back. There's definitely function in the design. Better seal better sound better comfort. I feel strongly that the tour reviews will yield similar impressions, too.

Reposting a question from the M3 thread, before this thread was created:

I wonder if the M4’s can be used in wired mode when turned off or empty battery? Utilizing a outboard DAC like the Audioquest Dragonflies?

You can, but I think you'd be better off using a USB-C cable and using them as "active speakers". This is essentially what they are designed for, the amps are perfectly matched for the drivers, the on-board EQ in the DSP will do some sound shaping to correct any flaws in the response (no Helmholtz resonators needed). Yes by default they will probably add too much bass, but hopefully this can be easily corrected using the app.

I'm interested in using a USB-C cable, but I need to find a thin and flexible one, most are too chunky.
