Introducing Lotoo PAW Gold

I have been travelling, so sorry for the tardy reply but others have pitched in .

I find it easiest to start with Genres. Even though my Rock, Pop genre is huge, it is still much easier to navigate that without other genres being mixed in.

My genres on the opening Files Screen of the LPG are Bluegrass;  Blues;  Classical;  Jazz;  R&B, Soul;   Rock, Pop;  Soundtrack;  and World. I created these large and basic genres to keep things simple. So for example, R&B, Soul includes my diminutive rap collection. Bluegrass extends to country like Dixie Chicks. And Rock, Pop is everything from Big Bopper to Beatles to Genesis to Metallica to Depeche Mode and onwards. (I used to have a Folk genre but it is now also folded into Rock, Pop, so really broad.)

My folder structure goes Genre > Artist > Album > Song. In a rare situation where I have a bunch of random songs from an Artist rather than distinct albums, I just create an 'album' called "Compilation".

The key is that you do this with all of your music once on your computer and then you have it forever and just keep adding to it. You then copy it over as needed to the PAW Gold or other music player.

A sensible filing system mate and one I've been meaning to implement for years! Must get started on it this weekend :D

@CraftyClown thanks!

One more point: I am fastidious, even obsessive about my tagging. The same genres are tagged onto all of my songs. This is important because when loaded into a tag-based system like the AK players, or (shudder) iTunes, the system works exactly the same as browsing folders. In fact, I use the Facets plug-in in Foobar which is tag-based, but to me it appears the same as if browsing folders on the LPG.

This is the ideal IMO: matching folder structure and tags.

Again, do it once and enjoy it forever.

[CONTENTEMBED=/t/744346/introducing-lotoo-paw-gold/2475#post_12931641 layout=inline]Guys, can we please not refer to a "6db power increase"? That is misleading as it suggests... increased power. This would require a change in circuitry, not just firmware. [/CONTENTEMBED]

[CONTENTEMBED=/t/744346/introducing-lotoo-paw-gold/2475#post_12931641 layout=inline]It is a 6db volume (orgain) increase.[/CONTENTEMBED]

That is not really a misleading,the bigger mistake for the potential buyers of the Diana version is to believe that comes with internal storage, however from now we will call it a 6 dB gain or volume increase, that is possible because of the new firmware..I suppose that battery lifw shall be slightly affected if player left on full volume,right?

It sounds as if the volume increase is the result of a switch setting that is already available in some modes (e.g. DSD) being extended into "normal" mode, right?

This means that the volume increase is already there, just made available in other modes, right?

Else I cannot see how a volume increase does not correspond with a power increase to the device.

Hey guys
Anyone out there who has made a comparison between Questyle QP1R, HM901s and Lotoo Paw Gold? Any idea on how they stack up against each other in respect of sound quality? Thanks

The Lotoo Paw Gold sounds much better than the HM901s to me, although the latter has more versatility as far as swapping cards.  The Paw Gold has sufficient power, a wide soundstage and is extremely detailed.  Others have drawn comparisons to the QP1R on these boards, so perhaps one of those listeners will repost their thoughts.

hello i have a Pawgold , never heard a hm901 s but i had a qp1r , the qp1r is a fantastic device for the price , but, the PawGold is better, the pawgold has more power and is more reference sounding , more flat and even more pinpoint in staging , i loved the Qpr1 but the sound is v shapped to my ears, thats my opinion

For any of you old enough to remember cassette tapes and Sony Walkmen, the Lotoo PAW Gold is like the Walkman Pro of DAPs - it's quite bulky and quite ugly, but it just crushes the opposition with it's engineering and audio performance. If you, like me, are a fan of form which follows function, it really is a wonderful unit.

Is sounds amazing and feels like it would still work after a nuclear war, the only down side is that it could be prettier.

Another huge plus is that no matter what 'phones you own, you don't need to worry about needing a separate amp.

The camouflage style Dignis case helped mitigate the Ark of the Covenant look.  When I listen to it, I forget about the appearance.

Ark of the Covenant look, lol. That's pretty spot on :p

I'd actually go for that silver D-pad + volume knob mod of they could mod the ring around power button, too...

I first learned about the LoToo PAW Gold and PAW 5000 from Grado, who said they use them and they recommend them for their Grado headphones.

I purchased a PAW 5000 recently and found it better than the FiiO X5ii for my Grados.

I have just traded for a LoToo PAW Gold as well, which should be in my hands middle of this week.

I am really anticipating great things.

Having the Chord Hugo coming to me as a Christmas gift, I plan to use the PAW5000 with its digital output to drive my Chord Hugo.

Life is GOOD!
