I'm listining through a CHA47 and sbl value (until i can afford the m audio revo) any way i had these phones equalized with the bass and treble way up and was really rather unhappy with how they handled rock songs, total lack of dynamics and response. But just today i turned off the SBL equalizer and set it back to neutral and it seems to have had a major impact on response time the phones seem much more lively, but non the less i still wanna hear the grado 225's. How will the bass of the grados' compare to the HD 280's

the 280's might be a little to sterile sounding for me also i wanna check out an open phone to complement them

I would read the reviews of people around here, I think the HD280's and Grados are 2 very different leagues of headphone. Not to mention the HD280 is closed while the Grado is open. From what I have read people seem to think the Grado is great for rock, one of these days I may pick up the SR60 or SR80 and give them a whirl.

You could always get them from Headphone.com, they have a 30 day money back guarantee.

Ah, I didn't realize you wanted to audition both. Dunno if Grado lists dealers on their site or not where you could demo.
