That cable issue should be obvious if the seller didn't strip it right. Just ask them about it.

Otherwise, the 780 has a small, deep soundstage and the cable probably helps smooth the highs out and adds a bit of midrange clarity and tighter bass. The other mods done really help with the overall focus and detail level. Not a bad headphone for $200ish. You could do worse. The only real competition is the D2000 and A or AD900. Soundstage is smaller than either of those on the 780 but it has a real punch and attack that the other two do not quite match. Oh, and the headband on the 780 sucks as do the earpads. You want to replace the earpads with Beyer DT250s and the headband with a bit of memory foam. Works great and makes the 780 a really good headphone.

yeah, i'ver got the 680's and to be honests, i enjoy the HFI's more than the Proline's. I was goning for the Pro 900's, but if i'm honest, I think I'd rather go for a pair of the 780's. I like to 'Enjoy' my music, and not just go for a pair of headphones 'cause I think they're going to be better, based on the price.

My 750 are more expensive than my 680's, doesn't mean i enjoy my 750 more. I did, until i bought the 680's.

BTW, I emailed the seller about the cable 2 days ago, haven't heard back.
