I need an integrated amp at least 40 watts with a phono stage. I have looked at the rega brio, exposure 2010, creek a50i, audio analogue puccini (discontinued?), Marantz PM7200, Rotel RA-01, Jolida etc. SO many brands out there, I'm just trying to make sense of it all. I'd be willing to entertain up 1000$ if it were justifiably better, but would rather stay towards the 500 mark.

What did I leave off? Is there any standout in the field? What are the most popular? I will be upgrading my speakers in the near future so I'm not thinking as far as "synergy" yet. Sources (so far) are kenwood kd-2055 (tt), sony D-121, and overture DAC. Music will be mostly blues, jazz, and classical. Thank you.

A bit more input concerning speakers/desired volume level/room size and the type of sound you're after would be helpful - and maybe some extra features you'd really like/you'd rather pass on, if detrimental to sound quality/too expensive.

Personally, I find my Marantz PM8000 (it's very much like the newer 7200) quite good for the price. Switchable class a operation is nice, because you have the choice between more power (=party mode) or better sound. It's a nice classical full-featured integrated amp with everything one would expect. I wouldn't say it's the best in its class, though - however, the Maratz' sonic signature suits my taste, and I haven't found any real weak spot in that thingy.

Still, your're right - it's really difficult, 'cause comparable offerings in this class from NAD, Denon, Rotel et cetera would be perfectly viable choices as well. So, in the end, you'll probably have to audition the stuff for yourself. That goes for both desired sonic signature and possible improvement in the class ~ US$ 800 - 1000. To me, the improment over ~ US$ 400 - 500 models wasn't worth it yet - but I might rethink that, if I'd use speakers more often...

Greetings from Hannover!

Here is a link to a Brio on Audiogon: Brio . I have the Mira 3 and have been happy using it with my VPI Scout. I've heard the Brio with a Rega P3 and it was a nice sounding combination.
