Installing rockbox using OSX?

This is because the folder needed for the install is called ".rockbox." In OS X, files proceeded by a dot denote system files, and become invisible. You can choose to view invisible files on your mac; you can either use a terminal command, or download programs such as TinkerTool or Pathfinder which allow you to see those hidden files. I use a mac myself, but use a Windows computer for all my Rockbox upgrades. Another alternative is to compile Rockbox on your mac. You might want to check out the Rockbox forums for more information on the above. Hope this helps!

Rockbox is very poorly implemented for the Mac. It disables a lot of the integration between OSX and the iPod, and doesn't provide that much in the way of added features to compensate.

Not sure where you are in the install, but another thing to overcome is the FAT32 partition tables problem. Not exactly straightforward with the Mac, and I discovered a bug of sorts in their master boot record that seems to affect some iPod video 30 GB.

Easy and straightforward though if you just format the thing on a PC.

Overall, totally not worth the hassle yet, in my opinion. Concerning your question, another way to look at it if you're comfortable with the command line is:

ls -a

in order to see the hidden .rockbox folder.

There are one missing feature that make Rockbox hard to use (install) for a Mac user. The lack of HFS+ support...
Meaning that Rockbox can't be installed on a Mac formatted iPod.
