When you insert the normal sized tapered earplugs like the yellow EARSoft, is it normal for them to stick out? Somehow when I look at Google Images I can see that the earplug was inserted completely into the ear canal. I Google Image'd the EAR Classics by the way. Mines seems to always stick out, even when I cut the earplug in half. I'm thinking it's normal, but I think it's weird for earplugs to stick out.

I wear them to sleep every night, they fit in so the ends are flush with the edge of my ear canal, they don't stick out at all. I would think that as long as they are reducing noise, they are doing their job.

Keep in mind you need something to grab onto to pull them out. To insure you are putting earplugs as far as they can go, reach over the top of your head and grab your ear and pull back. This helps straighten your ear canal and makes insertion easier.

Yes, even if I cut them in half (well, I cut a Shure foamie size off) they're still grabbable. The ear insertion method embarrasses me though, since I have to do it in front of my roommate or students in the library. Oh well

Ack, when you mean "pull back," that means pull behind you right? I've always done it so that I pull my ears towards the roof....

What are the earplugs being used for? Where do you use them? If it's a really noisy environment, cutting them in half may not be the best idea. Wouldn't that reduce the effectiveness?
