The only thing of this kind I can find is these 12dB attenuators from Harrison Labs:


They are kind of pricey at $30 a pair for what I'd imagine is just a pair of resistors. Does anyone know of a cheaper solution? At this point, I do not own any DIY materials, so the cost of buying wire, connectors, resistors, a solder gun, and solder + time to put it together is not feasible.

I own a DIY pair made by a guy who sells on eBay. They are pretty well made and cost a bit less than the ones you link to although they don't look nearly as nice.

There is a noticeable high frequency roll off caused by using them, but because I use them to attenuate input for the Ergo AMT this has its benefits. I'm thinking of buying a second set for my dads Bose Acoustimass setup.

You could try posting a WTB in the cables for trade or DIY forums and see if any of the corps of DIYers here would make you a set for less.

I was thinking I could use a pair of 3's or 6's myself. I see some at Parts Express for $5 each at 1, 3, and 6 dB. Since it's a pro audio shop they ought to be decent, but if they turn out to degrade the signal it's not that big an investment.

Thanks for the responses. And 6dB would actually be quite helpful as my listening volume on my amp is barely above the point where the channels balance out.
