Incoming Astell & Kern New: A&futura and A&norma

All my files are properly tagged and dated with dbPowerAmp when ripping or converting WAV downloads. Then I verify and make any changes in jRiver Media Center. But all my files are flac. Maybe that's the difference?

I know my flac files sort by tagged release date in every other software I use. But the Albums sort alphabetically in the SE100.

You are correct, they sort alphabetically. But if you change like I detailed above, alphabetically gives 'year released' order.

Ah... okay. I didn't quite understand what you were saying at first. Now I do.

Yeah... I'm not really wanting to have to change that every time I load files. And not really wanting that tag as Album name on all my files for other software.

I guess that means I don't want it THAT bad. I just want A&K to sort it "right" for me.

i also altered all my sub folders as well which took.longer!

But for an artist im not over familiar with, I hate not knowing the timescale of album im listening to. Or order they were released.

album titles are listed like this, not too obtrusive:

(1978) Hemispheres
(1981) Moving Pictures
(1989) Presto
(2012) Clockwork Angels

But agree, easier if DAP software used album year for sorting

My main complaint w/ the interface is that Artist/Album requires you to scroll through every song in each album to get to the next album. I've never seen this before, and don't care for it.

This does seem like a real stinker. With certain artists I have over 10 albums and having to scroll through through each song seems amateurish. You mean you can't go in and out of an album? Is this really how it is?

I have a classical CD that has over 60 short pieces on it... Can you imagine having to scroll through that?

"Features aside, the sound is about 95% of the SP1000 (and imo the ak70mii is about 90%)."

"So I finally got a chance to audition the SE100 and do some A/B comparison with my SP1000 SS, here are sone impressions:
First thing you will notice is that the SE100 is A LOT lighter than the SP1000 due to the different chassis material, so if weight was a concern for you with SP1000, this should help.
I was only able to find a couple songs that's on the demo unit and my SP1000, so take it with a grain of salt.
The clarity is there. It's pretty clean up top, the vocal sounds pretty similar to the SP1000, and with a slightly more aggressive low end. With the SP1000, I think it wins on 2 fronts: soundstage and dynamics.
The presentation of the SE100 is pretty flat, ie its very horizontal. When I go back to my SP1000, I find the music to be a lot more 3D. Width wise they are pretty similar, but the SP1000 has more depth and height as well.
The next thing I notice is the dynamics. The decay of notes are better rendered on the sp1000, the sound goes smoother from soft to loud or vice versa.
So if you ask me, at half the price, the SE100 offers a lot of what the SP1000 does, but just with a less refined presentation. Hope that helps."

From having many DAPs in the past, this is fairly common and isn't entirely unexpected. I seem to recall that my previous AK Jr also did this.

I realize this may not be uncommon as a few Chinese daps I own also do this, but it's so much more intuitive to have things sorted by artist. I was just taken by surprise because this is fundamentally different from how my AK320, AK70 and Kann behave.

In any case I ended up organizing the folder structure of my entire music library so I can browse the way I want... something that I avoided doing for years.

Also, would really like an option to sort Artist/Album by release date, rather than alphabetically. I tend to think of artists' albums by where they fall in the timeline of their releases, and not primarily by the name of each album.

Could not agree with you more. These are the things AK did right in the previous generation models. The new UI may look slicker but it's more cumbersome to navigate and less intuitively organized.

Hello, very few reviews of sr15 posted, but if choosing between ak702 and updated model, I would go with SR15.. Dac chips were updated and from scarce reviews, SR15 sq is better.

I own ak702, and love it
I also own Kann, love Kann as well
