Hello all !
It's been some time since I have posted here on Head-fi since I was content with my current hifi set-up. Although recently I have been reading through these forums about my Rolls Bellari HA540 amp and how the stock Ruby tube really bottlenecks the units true potential.. And of course this has gotten me madly interested in tubes and what people in the hifi scene call "tube rolling". I have an idea of what type of tube I need to get for the amp, a 12AX7. Although I am so so new to the hi-fi scene let alone the tube scene :/
And to be truly honest, since this is my first proper hifi setup and tube amp I actually think this Ruby tube people say isn't the best sounds absolutely amazing, so the thought of the sound improving even more is getting me so excited !
The tubes I am looking at are :*Mullard 12AX7 / ECC83 New Production Preamp Vacuum Tube
*Genalex - Gold Lion B759 / ECC83 / 12AX7 Preamp Vacuum Tube
*JJ ECC803s / Hi-Performance 12AX7 Gold Pin Preamp Vacuum Tube
*Sovtek 12AX7LPS Preamp Vacuum Tube
I also found a 1980's Mullard CV4004 on ebay for a reasonable price... should I just go for that instead of getting these four listed in bold ?
If this helps I have a pair of AKG K702s with cardas mini-XLR cable and love listening to female vocals as well as artists such as santana, bob marley, michael jackson, michael buble, Do As Infinity, etc.
I am very new to tubes so I really just am asking for fellow audiophiles with experience with tubes to help me out with what tubes I should look at. I am willing to spend up to $100 give or take.
