As a guitarist I'm frequently subjusted to loud music which can cause premanant ear damage when exposed to for an extented peroid of time. In a effort to stop the constant ringing in my ears after a performance, I've recently talked with a Audiologist who will make an impression of my ear canals, afterward they will be sent to the ear monitoring company of my choice for a custom fit. Among the company that I have looked into are: Westone, Shure and Ultimate ears just to name a few. If anyone can offer their personal experiences and suggestions it would really help on getting pass the guess work. Thanks

Firstly, welcome and sorry about your wallet!

The headphones forums is probably the best area, so try asking there.

It all boils down to personal preference, and budget. People usually go with Westone's stuff, or UE stuff for customs. The Westone molds for the UM series of in-ears can also handle E5's or ER4's so there is a big amount of choice running around.

Conventional monitors will definately hurt your hearing over time, as you know. IEMs will hurt your hearing over time just as much if you crank them up to match what you used to hear through conventional monitors. You probably know that, but I just wanted to state that.

My uncles band uses a shure wireless IEM system with e5s. They've have good luck with them and have used them for 5 nights a week for the past 6 years or so. They've thought about going custom, but they don't all want to fork out $1000 for some UE10Ps.

**Edit** They all use foamies with the e5s.
