Wasn't there a thread about the im601 going on sale for $39?

yuin pk3 for ear buds, jvc fx-66/sennheiser cx300/creative ep630 for canal phones. A few early buyers of the fx-66 are saying they prefer the sound of them to the cx300 and ep630, but it may just be the new purchase placebo effect. Then again they could really sound great. Hopefully some of those posters come across this thread to help you out.

It's a stellar deal, and definitely something to jump on for anyone looking for a starting IEM. If he wants to walk around a lot I'd advise against cx300s/ep630s due to the microphonic issue (hearing your own footsteps resonate through the chord), otherwise they're a solid choice under $40. Personally, I'd get the Yuin PK3; I plan on getting a pair, myself, since they're arguably the best buds aside from modded sony's that still cost over $50.

If he wants to go the cheap route, senn mx500s should be just fine...if he doesn't mind spending a little more, MylarOne X3s are highly recommended.
