I cycle around various IEMs during these last weeks. Boy these Enigmas they are so special with all their faults and limitations .
Really guys, this liveliness , this sense that that they really 'mean it' when they play something, this power and intimacy, is one of a kind.
Which leads to the discussion about headphones and earphones. I think this level of immersion and intimacy is not replicable with a headphone.

The Arya Organic gives me pretty decent immersion and engagement, but if I want intimacy in my headphones I go with my MDR-Z1R which is a decent closed back headphones. With Stax though I get a different kind of engagement like no other! IEMs though are just so convenient. They provide intimacy, engagement and immersion which is just different to headphones. Difficult to say which is better. Nice to have choices!

Yes, with a good set and given some brain-in, give in that is some time for your neurophysiology to settle the experience, one can reach an adequate sense of immersion.
The anatomical characteristics of IEMS I sometimes think, render them more appropriate to reach that experience. Thats what I mean.

Agreed! And some people find it difficult and even uncomfortable wearing headphones. Also, technology behind IEMs are now at a level that it is difficult to tell the difference between the two. I am just fortunate and blessed to be able to enjoy both and am spoilt for choice!

I like that you feel this level of immersion with iems. But I don't feel this way anymore since Ive started listening to the he 1000 se. That too I don't have a powerful desktop setup to make it sound good.
This experience beats any experience I've had with iems.
And the he 1000 se is cheaper than the Enigma+ as well.
I am planning to shift to a desktop setup and then maybe with that I can do some testing with the Enigma+ when I get them back from Bob.

I seem to be going the other way. I never owned a headphone before , but I prefer them now.
Yes there is some heat , pressure , clamp etc. but it's worth it.
I am thinking of giving up on iems entirely.
I have already surrendered my seraph,
Im in 2 minds to surrender my Enigma+ as well.

I know about the controversy around the Dawn, so not going to rehash it, but I'll be honest, regardless of who tuned it... It's bloody good. If nobody had caught on to the 'Alibaba Dawn', IMR would have easily got away with selling them at £250 imo... FOR SOUND. Build, not as much, as they are cheap looking and feeling. They need a specific tip for me so as to relieve the pressure and open up the sound.
For my sound preference... They are near perfect. If it wasn't for it's treble being a bit hit and miss and at times a bit artificial, I could settle with them. Soundstage is good as mentioned. I wouldn't even put it down to it being so unobtrusive feeling in ear, it's just a good, well tuned, well separated holographic soundstage imo.
Bass is phenomenal, like REALLY good quality. Overall detail sub bass to upper mids genuinely surprised me. There's a lot of it. For those reasons alone, I reckon that's why £250 would have passed.
If this thing is made and available for £20 individually on Alu and a lot less if bought in bulk, it really gets you thinking about the markup companies make and how a brand name and fancy build come into it. Head to head with say the FIIO FD5, I'd genuinely say the Dawn sounds better (to me anyway).
Only tip I could get to work with it if I wanted deep and proper seal

Rinko hybrid tips work really well for me. The discount price for these on eBay store now you can get a set for under £50 which is pretty much what I paid for the Alib when paying tax and postage. So worth getting
