Hello all,
I was planing on buying both the Sony MDR-Z7 headphones and the Sony PHA-3 DAC/amp in order to take advantage of their compatibility with regards to the left and right balanced cable jacks that they both have. However, I realized that if I plan on connecting my audio source (a CD player), to the DAC/AMP through the audio source's line out jack, I may be defeating the purpose of the balanced cables. This is because I dont know if the AUX cable connecting the audio source to the PHA-3 is balanced. If it is not then this may negate the benefit from the balanced cables connecting the MDR-Z7s to the PHA-3. Are those assumption correct? Also, would connecting the audio source to the PHA-3 through Toslink help this in any way? Would using line out or toslink really shift the DAC responsibilities to the PHA-3? I am concerned that there may be extra DAC involved in using a CD player rather than a digital source from a computers USB port. I realize that this equipment is made for digital audio sources with more resolution than CD audio in mind, but as of now I just wish to get the most out of the CD collection I have now without having to rip them, but I would still be open to opinions as to why using CD audio with this equipment may not make sense given their price or other factors.
