Was just looking at cables on apuresound.com and noticed that they have added a new item. Looks like it is a Impedance/Resistance Adapter. Looks around the same size as my radioshack 1/4th to 1/8th adapter so its pretty small...

What exactly does such an adapter do? Would I see a benefit in using one? I have one of their cables so I know quality is top notch... but is this worth it?

Seems like there is a discount for first 5 orders so i dont want to miss out on a good deal....

Has anyone heard that adapter already?

I am assuming one of its intended roles is to act as an Etymotic ER-4P to ER-4S converter as the official etymotic one is a 75 ohm converter. I believe there may be other IEM's that have similar converters.
These IEMs were initially designed for a flat response with the 75 ohm impedance, but have had their impedances changed in order to be more easily driven by un amped portable players.

I do know for a fact that the ER-4S has a flatter response curve in comparison to its lower impedance brother. Many members here will also attest to an improvement in sound overall, although I personally have not tried it.

interesting to see what this one does sound quality wise...

I'd imagine it doesn't sound any different than a high-end impedance adapter (like the ones Moon-Audio offers) or a cheap, DIY one. The point of an impedance adapter, in non-Ety cases, is to make sensitive headphones easier to drive for certain amps or to match impedances a little bit better with amps. Usually the effects are pretty small but still noticeable, and in some cases they are a necessity. There are some threads on this already, do a search and read up.

I have one of Dr. Xin's little 75 ohm plus x-feeds plugs. Works great in what it does.

Interesting site. Are people really ordering custom Recable and Mods of the $20 Koss KSC75? Life can be stranger than fiction, I say.

(I'm intrigued by the impedance adaptor too. Hopefully someone knows something about it.)
