Alright so I need to drive a device(small radio transmitter)that has an input that is expecting a 600ohm input and I want to use my mp3 player to drive it but as you know the headphone out is 32ohms which is a hell of a mismatch and I've tried doing this and the MP3 player can't drive it sufficiently to modulate it properly. How can I step up the impedance from 32ohms up to 600? Any easy ways I can do it with just the parts a RatShack would have on hand?

Thanks!

Impedence matching isn't really an issue here, you just need to get the right signal level into the input of the transmitter. It sound as if you're feeding the mp3 player's headphone output into the microphone input of the transmitter. Is that right? I would have thought there would be plenty of signal - are you sure you're not overdriving it?

What makes you think the headphone output is 32 ohms?

Some people argue that 'standard' headphone source impedance is 120 ohms, but the reality is that it's usually single digits of ohms, if that.

Stop worrying about impedance matching for AF signals.
