I just got my JH 13s and am using a 5.5 gen Ipod with a budget amp (amp soon to be upgraded)
What I am wondering is if the Imod is a huge diff in sq?
Anyone that has had it done your opinions would be much appreciated.

I have diyMod, but I think that never mind. Against stock ipod it is huge improvment, even about other better players like Sansa Clip and Cowon D2 is difference noticable on first listen. It is better in every way, better space, separation, clarity, detail.

Yes, for god's sake treat yourself, I wouldn't be without mine. When I first got it, I have to say I wasn't blown away immediately. But then there are certain types of music that it seems to bring out, e.g., brushing on cymbals and piano. I think this is more due to something I once read about true hi-fi being difficult to get used to, because there's not much colouration there; it's subtle. But when I listened to Annie Lennox Thorn in My Side - wow - I just smiled my head off when her voice kicked in. Buying used you can't lose.

Try and stay away from the ALO docks though, way overpriced considering it's just fancy wire, a connector and a couple capacitors.

My suggestion is if you have enough time and skill to mod your ipod, or will to pay the pricy finished imod, IMOD is one solution for upgrade the sound sources for your JH phones.

There are other selections now, because there are new generation DAP came out in the market. say, hifi DAP.

HIFIMAN is a 3 in one DAP which is combined with DAP/DAC/AMP function.

AMP3 is a 4 in 1 DAP, which is combined with DAP/AMP/hifi FM/ hifi earphone.

The advantage of the new generation DAP are the portable and low cost. For example, with AMP3, the size is only 74 X40 X20MM , you can got the DAP and AMP hybride. that means you don't need the strip to bundle the DAC and amp, you don't need to invest in cable.

And the whole package of AMP3 is only $149. the sound quality can be better than my imod in my comparing.
