Hey all. I've really been confused by the existence now of not only one (RWA iMod) but a grand total of FOUR models that seem to be modifications of iPods. Now from what I gather on the internet they are all doing the same thing - create a direct line out from the DAC to the docking port/headphone out (depending on which generation of iPod that is) and also to put in Black Gate capacitors into the iPod. Where exactly do the differences lie? Everyone who has auditioned them seems to say that they're all different in sound. Since they're (AFAIK) identical mods, shouldn't they sound identical? And if anyone here HAS listened to them, what are actually the differences in the sound?

Thanks

I think what makes them different from each other is the skill in soldering and the wires that they use. Those alone can change the sound by heaps and loads. But I have not tried any of them yet so I can't really give you a comparison.Sorry :X

On a forum where even the smallest things like a recable can cause night and day difference, this is a silly question. I also doubt there are many people out there who own one of each type for comparison. But if there is, you can bet they would write volumes about the unique character of each mod, even if the mods are really identical.

All I can say is that a day ago a directly compared the 4g imod to a regular 5.5g video and the imod clearly won. The difference in sound was day and night. I also had some other people listen who do not own any high end audio gear to see if they could hear the difference. They agreed that the imod was vastly superior. Personally I was actually very surprised as this is the first time I have ever listed to an ipod before and it sounded a lot worse than what I had expected! My cell phone got better sound than the dam ipod.

Now as far as the differences between different modded versions, I can not say as I have never heard any of them besides the imod. All I can say is the imod is way better than the stock ipod.
