Hello everyone:
I´ve just ordered my new par of AKG K 401. Before buying them, I read a lot of info about them since they are my first expensive headphones EVER. The thing is that I was with my Sony MDR-V200 trying to find diferences between a E441 and a D141. While I was doing that, I start to think about my AKG and I said: "How about if I dont find ANY diferences between my old crappy sonys and my AKG K 401? Then, I was in tears. I spend 3 days without lunch at college to buy those AKG, and now I have this terrible doubt about them.
So the question is: Would I listen any notable diference in any source that I use? I know my PCDP are not the best things to try them on, but I have a great computer and a nice Sound Board.
Please, let me know about everything I asked... I would love to see some good and tight answers about this (for me) calamity

You should enjoy them a lot. My father has used AKG K401's for months now and has enjoyed them a lot. They don't need a great source to sound good.

Man... you haven't even received them yet (?), and are upset because you're thinking they may not sound good enough?

If that's true, it's your own imagination and projections upsetting you. Why not wait to receive the headphones? And then if you don't like the sound... couldn't you send them back? Or even sell them to someone on this board...

If it makes you feel better, you could always sell them to someone in the Gear FS/Trade section, or trade them for something else. You might lose a little money, but at least would be able to get back a lot of what you spent.

I think the only problem I have with them is that I dont have too much knowledge about the audiophilia world. Even tho I have the money to buy me better headphones, I want to save some money to start building my own amp and to buy a pair of good speakers.
To all the moderators: You know what it would be a really good help? To make a newbie FAQ about headphones/PCDP/Cables/etc. Like, "How can I compare a good sound between PCDP´s? How can I try my headphones? What are all the names and numbers in the specifications in the headphones web pages?" etc etc etc
I would love to help with that

Thanks again,

I think you'll be quite happy with them. If they're brand new they'll sound a bit thin at first, they need a good 50 hours of break-in to settle down. If you do like I did and just listen to the phones from day one you'll hear them open up as time goes on.

Hey, Walter,

Congratulations for your buy, I am convinced that you will find tha AKGs make a huge difference towards your Sonys

Do not forget to let them "burn in" for 2-3 days before *listening* to them.

OK, OK, I supose you won't resist - anyway, keep in mind that it's only after the burning in period that they will reveal all their possibilities

Enjoy!

It has been tried, and it has failed. Supposedly some people are working on one right now. I'm not sure what is going on with it, but my guess is that it isn't going to well.
